Milestone Reached with Full Completion of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant in Tanzania
The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant in Tanzania has officially reached full completion following the issuance of the Taking-Over Acceptance Certificate (TOAC) for its final generating unit in March 2025. With all nine units now fully operational, the plant delivers its total installed capacity of 2,115 MW to Tanzania's national grid.
This landmark project, developed on the Rufiji River, stands as the largest hydropower facility in East Africa and the second largest on the African continent. Representing the company's first venture into hydropower, it is a pivotal achievement that reinforces regional energy security and resilience.
The plant now supplies clean and reliable electricity to more than 60 million people across Tanzania.
